I've got the London look!
Great day today! After visiting with my orthodontist, I was finally able to begin scheduling my surgery! Whoop! They are going to do a two piece upper now instead of breaking it into three, so now I have a huge Gap in the middle of my two front teeth (looking like that annoying British model in the rimmel London commercial). But I get to have my surgery so I'll take the gap! My pre-op appointment is on August 4 to make sure I don't drop dead while they are sawing my face in half. Once I'm good and cleared for surgery, I will set the date!

It's been too long
I know, I know, I haven't posted in FOREVER! We all know the saying, "life happens" and it's so true. For the past 4 months my life has been consumed with house hunting but, we have officially purchased our forever home! Now that this stressor is gone I can get back to my favorite subject, double jaw surgery. Since I have last posted, my surgeon has officially become Dr. Tu at the U of M and my insurance has accepted to pay for my necessary reconstruction (God is good). I actually schedule my surgery the next time I go in, July 9! I am so so so ready to have this surgery. Will it suck? Yes. Will I be the most anxious person you have ever seen once I have a date? Hell yes. Am I excited for 3 months of a liquid diet? No. Am I ready? Fuck yes. Strap me down, put me out, and saw away. The surgeon has decided he may be able to only break my top jaw in 2 pieces instead of three (great). I'll update again after the 9th about surgery date!

New oral surgeon
Today I had my third appointment at the university of Minnesota. Just got my braces tightened to continue the process and he gave me the name of the new oral surgeon! Apparently he went to school with the doctor that was going to do my surgery in illinois. So I have my appointment with him on January 6. Hoping to get a concrete surgery date down! 😆

University of Minnesota: first real visit
I meet with my new orthodontist at the u of m and I could not be happier with what he had to tell me! My anticipated surgery at this point is in 9 months! My teeth do move really fast so I'm hoping for a little less time but we shall see. The office decided they will only charge me $3600 to finish my orthodontic work. That is HUGE because the last place I transferred to was quoting me at $7000! Keep in mind I have already spent $4000 on treatment. The next phase is to look for a new surgeon who will take on my case.

The university of Minnesota is the savior
Met with Brent Larson at the U of M. They are taking on my case! I will be in the faculty department, since my case is too complicated for the student department. They will find a surgeon who is willing to do the surgery the way I want it done and we will go from there. I go back in on the 30th. This is such great news!

Making headway!
Today I received a call from Brent Larson, the director of orthognathic surgery and orthodontics at the university of Minnesota. He is willing to meet with me to see if the university can take on my case! I go to see him October 16th! I hope this brings good news!

Nothing has been decided
On Friday I called Dr. Omilie's office ot understand why we cannot stick with the same plan I had in place in Illinois. I called at 9am and left a message with a woman. Almost 2 hours later I still hadn't gotten a call back so I called again. I was a little more stern and said I wanted a call back ASAP about the situation. Not but 5 minutes later the woman who I was supposed to talk to called me back. I explained the situation to her and she kept saying a should just come in for a consultation. Problem: consultations with an orthognathic surgeon are not free and not covered by insurance. My last consultation with my Illinois surgeon was almost $300. I told the woman I'm not paying $300 to get told what I already know. If he isn't going to follow my already prescribed plan and surgery then he isn't doing it. She kept saying that he was a good surgeon, best in the 5 state area. I was so pissed, I told her then he should have to problem with me "complicated case and surgery" then. He shouldn't need to start over, he should be able to do the surgery needed. At the end, since it took them until after 11am to get back to me, dr. Omilie wasn't in the office anymore so I have to wait until Tuesday to hear anything. I also called the university of Minnesota to see if they would take on my case, I had to leave a message. So right now nothing has happened. Just have to wait and wait. As if I haven't already waited enough for all of this. Very frustrating.
